A rare species native to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador and Peru, Aechmea tayoensis is prized for its dramatic inflorescence and broad, drooping foliage. The plant forms a large upright rosette with burgundy petioles and lime green leaves flushed with copper-red in bright light. Its spiny, artichoke-like bloom of recurved orange-red bracts and yellow flowers can last over a year, making it a showpiece in any collection2.
